A political thriller of the most taking Lautner that found here after the excellent Delon The Breast Ice . The film adapts a novel by Jean Laborde that Lautner had already transposed The Pasha and was responsible for other minor classics of the French thriller 70's as Adieu Poulet . The greatest asset of the film is the screenplay by Michel Audiard particularly corrosive who inspired political scandals of the time as Boulin The case portrays particularly virulent and pessimistic upper echelons of French politics.
Delon's character (also producer here), came into possession of a document wetting the entire political class is thus alternately threatened, spied upon and corrupted by those concerned but also tackled by the opposition that much better, returning Lautner all these people back to back. A heavy and desperate atmosphere emerges throughout the film reinforced the picture of Henry grayish Deca (Maurice Fellous wonder the faithful is not the party) and the jazzy score and depressive Philippe Sarde. Just blame it does a few laps anyway, but the courage of the position and flawless interpretation prevails membership. 
Far from his roles as heroes, Delon portrays a normal type to the inflexible righteousness and unwavering friendship while the cast and offers a cheerful gallery bloated faces for villains with a chilling Klaus Kinski (who entitled to a memorable monologue chilling cynicism), Julien Guiomar hateful and threatening and a nice final twist revealing unexpectedly the most corrupt of all. Ornella Muti is not only very convincing, especially annoying given that the quasi Mireille Darc accustomed role of figurehead would have been much better in the role. The fantasies of his comedies police are not appropriate here and Lautner disappears behind his story with a sober realization (and not without bad taste as the death of the wicked in the station still picture) but has a few good time as the trap surprising that a sustained Delon country road surrounded by two semi-trailers. So very good and very courageous for the time it was undertaken. Released on DVD in Zone 2 Fox Pathé Europa
